Taormina

Taormina was founded as a tourist town: lying on a plateau overlooking the sea at 200 metres high, with a marvellous view of Etna, it was chosen as the place of living by Romans, Byzantines and Saracens. Destination place since the 18th century, only towards the last three decades of the 19th century has it witnessed a considerable tourist boom.

The historical and artistic legacies are innumerable from the various historical epochs that have left a trace here; among the many, the Greek theatre stands out where shows are held especially during the warm summer months.
